What Do White House Press Secretary Jay Carney and Soviet-Era Propaganda Have in Common? They Both Live in the Same House.

Washingtonian MOM magazine’s new profile on White House Press Secretary Jay Carney’s wife is getting a lot of media coverage — just not for the actual profile.

It's the pictures found within the piece that are stealing all the attention.

In one of the accompanying photos, two framed Soviet-era propaganda posters are clearly visible.

One of the posters features a solider in communist red sternly pointing his finger, and it seems to be a recruitment photo. Business Insider notes that in another version of the same poster, the text below reads in Russian, "Have YOU Enlisted?”

The second poster shows a woman working in a factory replacing a tag with a man’s name on it with hers. "Women! Learn production, replace workers who went to the front! The stronger the hinterland - the stronger the front!" the text on the poster reads.

“According to this eBay seller, who is offering one for $1,660, the poster was printed on June 26, 1941, days after Russia began fighting the Axis powers in World War II,” Business Insider adds. “It encourages women take jobs vacated by men who have gone to fight.”

Carney was also mocked for another photo featured in the magazine profile, one that shows he and his wife, ABC News contributor Claire Shipman, talking at a podium in front of a bookshelf.

Observant Internet users quickly realized there was something off about the image:

As noted by @RBPundit, the photo above appears to have been photoshopped so carelessly that Carney's son's finger is actually visible on the other side of the photo -- as if it's just floating in mid-air.

Carney apparently hadn't commented on the photos or the soviet-era propaganda as of Friday afternoon.

UPDATE: As TheBlaze's Becket Adams points out, Jay Carney worked out of Time's Moscow bureau for years, which could be an easy explanation for the Soviet-era propaganda posters.
