Unexpected Act of Kindness Leaves Local Businessman Stunned: 'I Can't Say Enough'

"I said we wanted to help in some way..."

A Washington state coffee shop owner struggling with a family health emergency and financial distress was left stunned by an unexpected action of one of his patrons.

Luxe Coffee Shop owner Isaiah Crandall's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Since then, he has often been forced to close his business several times because of the high expenses of  treatment, according to KREM.

Kevin Finch, the creator of an organization called "Big Table" that aims to help people in the service industry, heard Crandall's story from a friend.

He had to do something.

"I said we wanted to help in some way with some of the extra expenses. Planned to come in when I knew he was working, ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, and left the tip,” Finch told KREM. "It was a 500 dollar tip."

The good deed stunned Crandall, who said he put the money to pay for his wife's treatment and a family vacation on the Oregon coast.

"When something like that comes around, it's absolutely appreciated. I can't say enough for people going through what we are, how big things like that are for them,” said Crandall.

Finch told KREM that the tip he left Crandall was the best one he's ever left in his life — yet.
