Why Has the NFL Launched an Investigation Over an AR-15 Featured at a Gun Show?

The National Football League has launched an investigation after a Washington Redskins-themed AR-15 rifle was discovered at a D.C.-area gun show.

It’s not about the gun — it’s about the unauthorized use of the Redskins’ logo, an NFL spokesman said. The league does not allow the use of teams’ logos on firearms.

A picture of a burgundy and gold AR-15 seen at the Capitol Gun Show over the weekend caught the attention of the Internet and the NFL.

“The same gun, retailing for $2,000, was at one point available at an online gun distributor,” CBS Sports reports. “The description reads, in part: ‘Angels will be heard singing ‘Hail to the Redskins' as you feast your eyes on this one-of-a-kind tribute to our nation's capitol home team.’ The rest of the description is even more bizarre.”

That gun reportedly sold out quickly, according to the company’s website.

The NFL has not taken a stance on the Second Amendment or gun control. It does, however, prohibit firearms at all of their facilities.
