Here's Why Jon Stewart Mercilessly Mocked Harry Reid Last Night

Comedian Jon Stewart took Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to task Tuesday for the Senate majority leader's selective attacks on "corrupt" and politically active billionaires.

"Corruption is a billionaire who spends their money on s**t you don't like," Jason Jones, a “Daily Show” correspondent, joked with the host.

Free speech, Jones continued, is "a billionaire who spends money on s**t you do like."

Reid has made it something of a mission in the Senate to attack and “expose” brothers Charles and David Koch for “trying to buy our democracy.”

The Kochs, Reid said, are to be condemned for pouring millions of dollars into political causes that they support.

However, in an interview last week with NBC News’ Chuck Todd, Reid defended politically active casino tycoon Sheldon Adelson, another billionaire known for pouring money into politics.

“I know Sheldon Adelson — he’s not in this for money,” Reid said. “He’s in it because he has certain ideological views.”

Stewart found this discrepancy in Reid’s view of politically active billionaires too much to pass on and spent an entire segment on his program Tuesday night mocking it.

Adelson's "got ideological views," Stewart said, making fun of Reid. "If those happen to line up with the money, mazel tov!"
