Author Brad Thor Says This Is the 'Biggest Question' Not Being Asked About the Bergdahl Exchange

"So we need to ask, cui bono? What was in it for the Haqqanis?"

Number one bestselling author Brad Thor appeared on TheBlaze TV's Dana Friday to discuss what he believes is the "biggest question" the mainstream media is not asking about the recent trade of five senior Taliban leaders from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held captive by militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan for nearly five years.

Was the White House directly or indirectly involved in a financial exchange to ensure Bergdahl's release, Thor asked, thereby knowingly funding a terrorist organization?

Thor noted that Bergdahl is believed to have been held by the Haqqani network, which has pledged allegiance to the Taliban but operates independently. Thor described the Haqqani network as "like organized crime, but with Muslims -- 80 percent 'Sopranos,' 20 percent Al Qaeda."

"Yet it's the Taliban, the Afghan Taliban, a different group, that got the prisoners returned to them," Thor remarked. "So we need to ask, cui bono? What was in it for the Haqqanis? And the Haqqanis in every single transaction always want money, including 2008 when they captured New York Times reporter David Rohde. So for the Haqqanis to just hand over Bowe Bergdahl for nothing makes no sense at all."

Thor said the Obama administration needs to be asked whether it directly or indirectly funneled money to the Haqqani network.

"And I don't care if it was cash, gold, diamonds, did it happen through a third party, did it go through the Qataris..." Thor said. "I don't know how it happened, but I'm telling you: with the Haqqanis, there's always money. But nobody has put it to the White House to say, 'Was there anything in this for the Haqqanis? If so, what was it?'"

"I'm telling you, there was some sort of deal in this for the Haqqanis that the White House doesn't want to talk about," Thor remarked. "I promise you."

Thor, who seemingly predicted the release of five of the most dangerous detainees at Guantanamo Bay in his book "The First Commandment" seven years ago, had choice words for how the Obama administration has approached foreign policy and the economy.

"They are completely inept. They are incompetent. They are ignorant. They don't know what they're doing," Thor stated. "The economy hasn't recovered. Show me one thing from the Obama administration that the American people should be saying, 'we want more of that, that's great, give us more.' They haven't done anything right."

"They have no idea what they're doing in the White House, as evidenced by everything being a failure from Barack Obama and his people," he concluded.

Brad Thor recently wrote a contributors piece for TheBlaze about the possibility that the Obama administration paid a ransom to the Haqqani network to ensure Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl's release. You can read the complete article here.
