GOP Rep. Proposes Bill Allowing Americans to Use the Same 'Flimsy, Obviously Made-Up Excuses' as Government Officials

"Taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to follow laws the Obama administration refuses to follow themselves."

Congressman Steve Stockman (R-Texas) recently proposed legislation allowing Americans to use the same "flimsy, obviously made-up excuses" that he says government officials have used on the American people. Stockman is calling the bill: “The Dog Ate My Tax Receipts Act."

Stockman's legislation would allow Americans to use excuses like, "convenient, unexplained, miscellaneous computer malfunction," and "at this point, what difference does it make?" if asked to provide documents to the IRS.

Other acceptable excuses include "received water damage in the trunk of Ted Kennedy’s car" and "forced to recycle by municipal Green Czar."

The bill comes as the IRS says it lost several years’ worth of emails that Republicans are seeking as part of their investigation into the IRS targeting scandal. Stockman said on The Glenn Beck Program with guest host Dana Loesch Wednesday that they're "trying to bring humor" to the situation, because it seems like there's little else they can do.

"This administration just does what it wants," Stockman said.

Here is the complete list of excuses Stockman's bill would allow Americans to use with the IRS:

1.         The dog ate my tax receipts

2.         Convenient, unexplained, miscellaneous computer malfunction

3.         Traded documents for five terrorists

4.         Burned for warmth while lost in the Yukon

5.         Left on table in Hillary’s Book Room

6.         Received water damage in the trunk of Ted Kennedy’s car

7.         Forgot in gun case sold to Mexican drug lords

8.         Forced to recycle by municipal Green Czar

9.         Was short on toilet paper while camping

10.       At this point, what difference does it make?

“The United States was founded on the belief government is subservient and accountable to the people," Stockman said in a statement. "Taxpayers shouldn’t be expected to follow laws the Obama administration refuses to follow themselves. Taxpayers should be allowed to offer the same flimsy, obviously made-up excuses the Obama administration uses.”
