The Murder Investigation That Started With a Couple Answering a Craigslist Ad That's So Grisly Cops Say They'll 'Never Forget

What started earlier this month with a couple planning to meet someone for sex, as arranged through a Craigslist ad, ended in a gruesome triple homicide that Michigan police say they won't be able to forget.

According to the Grand Rapids Press, 25-year-old Charlie Oppenneer and 18-year-old Brooke Slocum, who was eight months pregnant at the time, were found murdered last week. The suspect,  Brady Oestrike, led police on a chase, eventually crashed the car and shot himself.

"In this case, I'm sure there are moments and pictures that our staff will never forget," Capt. Kim Koster, with the Wyoming, Michigan, police department, told the newspaper.

Koster said the whole ordeal was a "horrific" "tragedy" and one that makes officers want to "go home to your family and you just want to hug them."

Police said they found Slocum strangled in the car's trunk, she and her unborn child dead, and Oppenneer was decapitated, his head still not located even after "a very thorough and exhaustive search," according to WOOD-TV.

The Press reported that Slocum and Oppenneer agreed to meet the 31-year-old suspect on July 12 at a local park. By July 16, police were searching the park's woods after someone reported seeing an abandoned car. The next day, Oestrike led police on a chase, which they feared could endanger the public, and killed himself after crashing. Police found Slocum's body in his trunk.

“As soon as we crossed that Burton Street overpass, my heart fell into my stomach," Slocum's father, Greg Slocum, who happened to be driving in the area around the same time and saw the crash, told WOOD. "I knew my baby was up there."

Police called Oestrike's home a "hellish environment" where they collected more than 400 pieces of evidence, the news station reported.

Police are investigating the possibility of other victims as well. The FBI and the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force are involved in the investigation as well.
