Actor Who Played Gang Member in Popular TV Series Stabbed, Beaten in Nightclub

Glover told police he heard someone shout, "He has a knife," and then felt sharp pain in his right side

WASHINGTON (TheBlaze/AP) — Authorities say actor Anwan Glover, known for playing a gang member in the HBO series "The Wire," has been treated for a laceration after he reported being stabbed and kicked at a nightclub in the nation's capital.

According to a police report obtained by The Washington Post, Glover told investigators he was at Cafe Asia early Sunday when an unknown person punched him and another person hit him on the head. Glover told police he was then kicked repeatedly, heard someone shout, "He has a knife," and then felt sharp pain in his right side, the Post added.

Authorities say Glover was treated for a laceration to the torso at George Washington University Hospital. His condition wasn't immediately known.

The 41-year-old actor lives in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, and most recently appeared in the Oscar-winning movie "12 Years a Slave."

Off screen, Glover has participated in anti-violence campaigns and spoken about his personal encounters with violence.

He reportedly was shot 13 times as his youth in Columbia Heights. His brother died in a shooting in the District in 2007, and his son was woundedin a shooting at a party in 2011.

In "The Wire," Glover played tough gangster Slim Charles, the Post added.
