A Police Car Was Shot At and Retreated': Exhausted Cop Explains First Night of Ferguson Curfew

A visibly exhausted Capt. Ron Johnson, of the Missouri State Highway, recounted the violent events of Ferguson's first curfew night in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Johnson confirmed that multiple people displayed and used firearms during the evening, shooting at a police car and sending one man to the hospital with critical gunshot wounds.

Johnson also confirmed the police use of tear gas on Sunday morning, used to disperse crowds violating the midnight-to-5 a.m. curfew declared by Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on Saturday.

The St. Louis suburb of Ferguson has been rocked by protests since the Aug. 9 shooting of an unarmed black teenager, Michael Brown, by a white police officer.
