What a Dashcam Caught a Florida Cop Doing for a Man in a Wheelchair That Has Some Calling Him a 'Hero

“It was raining so hard, I couldn’t even see the stop sign."

Florida police officer Gil Benitez is being called a "hero" after coming to the rescue of Michael Arnold, whose electric wheelchair shut down in the middle of a violent thunderstorm.

Arnold was a block away from his house when he says his wheelchair "just stopped." It wasn't long before the wind picked up, and his umbrella ceased to be of much use.

“It was raining so hard, I couldn’t even see the stop sign," Benitez recalled.

Benitez's dash camera captured him exiting his car and starting to push Arnold home. Arnold said not only did the officer see him safely inside, he helped him dry off his wheelchair and waited with him until his family arrived.

“There’s not many nice people in the U.S. ... but you’ll come across one or two people, or three people, that are saying, 'I’ve got to help,' and that’s what they did,” Arnold told WBBH-TV.

“Sir, I am very grateful for your help. I didn’t even catch your name, but I thank you,” Arnold added.

But Benitez said anyone in his position would have done the same thing, he "just happened to be there first."
