September 19, 2014
"An unscripted line of our Nightly News report was imprecise..."
NBC News was forced to issue a clarification Friday after NBC Nightly News host Brian Williams incorrectly reported federal charges had been ruled out against New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in connection with the George Washington Bridge scandal.

On Thursday, Williams said that "federal charges are now ruled out for Chris Christie in the affair that came to be known as Bridgegate.''
A headline on NBC news further read, "'Bridgegate' Investigators Find No Link to Chris Christie."
However, Rebekah Carmichael, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney handling the case, later said after the report that "the investigation is continuing."
On Friday, an NBC News spokeswoman acknowledged Williams' report was incorrect.
"An unscripted line of our Nightly News report was imprecise and implied that a final decision had been reached,'' Erika Masonhall said, according to App.com.
