When Two Women Opened The Trunk of Their Rental Car, They Made a Terrifying Discovery

“As calls go, this one was pretty strange."

Two women were driving from Boston to Kennebunk, Maine, on vacation Wednesday when they came across something that would likely leave some people in tears: a ball python in their rental car.

Thankfully the python didn't emerge while they were driving, or it might have have caused an accident. According to Kennebunk Police Lt. Eric O’Brien, the women popped the trunk around 9:15 p.m. to get their bags and found the unwelcome guest in the trunk.

The Maine Sun Journal reports:

Officers arrived and were able to lure the snake into a pillowcase, and the snake spent the night at the Kennebunk police station. O’Brien was not sure which rental car company the women rented the vehicle from.

O’Brien said the snake was turned over to the Maine Warden Service on Thursday, and he said their plan was to take it to the Maine Wildlife Center in York.

The names of the women were not revealed, but Kennebunk Deputy Police Chief Dan Jones told the Portland Press Herald they were "pretty shaken up."

“They wanted a new rental car, even after we removed the snake,” he said, adding that "as calls go, this one was pretty strange."

It is still unclear why there was a python in the rental vehicle.
