'Please Don’t Hurt the Girls': Police Say Those Were the Last Words Thug Heard After He and Two Accomplices Threatened Texas Man's Family
October 03, 2014
"They were basically at a standoff."
Police say a trio of thugs broke into a family’s home in Harris County, Texas, early Friday morning — but only two escaped alive.
Eight people, seven family members and one employee of the family's construction business, were inside the house when the mother’s adult son reportedly heard the unmistakable noises of someone breaking into the home. He retrieved his firearm and confronted the suspects, according to police.
“Please don’t hurt the girls,” he reportedly told the three intruders.
Moments later, he opened fire. The son shot and killed one of the suspects, and the remaining two ran out of the home.
Sgt. Felipe Rivera, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, said “they were basically at a standoff, and he discharged first.” Rivera also revealed that one of the burglary suspects fired a gun inside the home.
None of the family members were harmed during the scary incident.
KHOU-TV reports that police did not provide a detailed description of the two at-large suspects, only stating that they were heard speaking Spanish.
