‘Never Have I Seen Anything Like This’: Watch How an Elephant Responds When Attacked by 14 Lions
November 12, 2014
“We were all so worried the baby elephant would be killed right before us.”
Incredible wildlife footage posted online this week shows a baby elephant in Zambia successfully survive an attack by a pack of 14 lions.
The footage, captured by journalist Jesse Nash and a couple others, depicts the 1-year-old elephant escape the ambush at the Norman Carr Safaris Chinzombo Camp, according to the New York Post. The elephant appears to avoid falling victim to the pack by retreating to the water and charging the lions.
“In the 30-plus years I have been a safari guide in Zambia at the Luangwe Park, never have I seen anything like this,” a top safari guide who drove the group to the site told the Post. “We were all so worried the baby elephant would be killed right before us.”
The baby elephant has since been named "Hercules" and been united with its herd.
