HENDERSON, Nev. (TheBlaze/AP) — President Barack Obama says he wants a Democrat in the White House in 2016 and is pledging to do everything possible to help that nominee succeed.
At the same time, Obama says the public wants that "new car smell" when it comes to the next presidential campaign.
As Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol put it, Obama "thr[ew] Hillary [Clinton] under [the] bus" with his comment.
In an interview broadcast Sunday on ABC's "This Week," Obama said this of the American people: "They want to drive something off the lot that doesn't have as much mileage as me."
He went on to say that the 67-year-old Clinton, his former secretary of state, and a number of other potential Democratic candidates would make great presidents, but he didn't name other names.
Clinton has said she'll decide whether to run early next year.
