The News One Bank Delivered to Customers Is So Unprecedented Some Didn’t Even Believe It

"It's absolutely real."

TD Bank recently astonished some of their customers by providing them $30,000 to carry out a good deed of their choice within the community — but it came with one caveat: the money had to be spent in 24 hours.

“It's the season of giving and the perfect time to help make tomorrow a bit brighter for people in our communities," Mike Pedersen, President & CEO of TD Bank, said in a statement. “We're constantly amazed by the great things that our customers do for their communities, and know that many of them have even bigger dreams, but aren't able to make them a reality."

As part of the bank's recently launched #MakeTodayBetter campaign, TD selected 24 customers in 24 different communities to give the money to.

A video posted online documents some of the customers' reactions when they learn they will be walking out of the bank with the money.

"Is this real?" one individual asks.

"It's for real," the bank employee replies. "It's absolutely real."

Edwin, a Florida elementary coach, used his money to provide equipment for a struggling football league.

Michael, from London, Ontario, helped with the costs associated with helping a neighbor make her home more accessible.

Valerie, from Philadelphia, Penn., hosted a gala for foster girls to show that they are important and beautiful.

TD's video has amassed more than 1.2 million views since being published to YouTube earlier this week. The bank is encouraging people to tweet at them or share their #MakeTodayBetter acts on their Facebook page.

“A recent TD survey found that roughly 70 per cent of people said they are inspired to give back when they witness a good deed," Tim Hockey, Group Head Canadian Banking and President and CEO of TD Canada Trust, said in a statement. "We hope that by sharing some of the magical giving moments it will encourage others to find their own way to make a real difference for people in communities across North America."

TD recently made news earlier this year when they morphed ATM machines to provide special, personal gifts to pre-selected customers.
