Michele Bachmann says spending bill amounts to a 'voter registration drive' for Democrats

Outgoing Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) warned Monday that passage of the $1.1 trillion spending bill without any limit on President Barack Obama's immigration plans will allow Democrats to manufacture a huge, new voting block of illegal immigrants in the next two years.

"That's all this was about," Bachmann said on the Laura Ingraham Show. "This is the voter registration drive for the president's permanent political class of the far-left into the future, and the Republicans made it happen."

While the immigrants who take advantage of Obama's action won't be allowed to vote, Bachmann said giving them work permits and other documents would make it easier for them to slip through they system and find ways to vote. She also said Democratic groups would likely seem out their votes.

"They'll be recruited to vote," she said. "Team Obama will know where those people live."

Bachmann said these possible outcomes made the House vote on the spending bill the most important vote since she's been in Congress. But she said it was rushed through in a way that will give Obama just what he wants.

"What the ruling class in Washington have just decided is that we will have open borders, we will not have any sovereignty over our borders," she said. "In effect, the president has just put the insurance policy in the bank so that Democrats in the future will, in all likelihood win every presidential contest from here on out."

"We had the numbers in the House to stop it," she said. "The will was not there."

The House allowed the bill to be passed without any votes on defunding Obama's immigration move. In the Senate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) managed to force a related vote, but only found the support of 21 other Republicans when he challenged the spending bill.
