It Started Out as Simple Christmas Caroling — but What Happened 60 Seconds Into This Clip Absolutely Stunned One Family

"The moms acted as our accomplice."

When an unsuspecting father answered the door, he found a small group of carolers on hand to offer his family a beautiful serenade. But what started out as a four-member choir dressed in centuries-old garb quickly erupted into a massive production, featuring a 20-person orchestra and a 13-member choir.

As the group sang traditional Christmas songs a capella, the family started to notice that other individuals were appearing on the front lawn. People dressed as elves joined in on the singing — and that's when the performance really started to kick up a notch.

The door on a giant truck adorned with Christmas lights parked outside of the home abruptly opened and individuals dressed in suits began streaming out and onto the lawn, carrying with them folding chairs and instruments.

Within mere moments, the a capalla serenade transitioned into a full-scale orchestra performance.

As the three children and two parents looked on in shock and glee, more characters were added into the mix, as a group of Santas and snowmen joined in the procession.

See it all unfold below:

The spectacle was put on by a group known as Improv Everywhere, a cohort that prides itself on causing "scenes of chaos and joy in public places."

As it turns out, the family is one of five that was chosen to be surprised. And it's important to note that it wasn't actually the family's home where the performance unfolded.

Here's how Improv Everywhere pulled it off:

We rented a house and then invited families into the home under the guise of getting a family photo taken. We reached out to our NYC-area email list looking for families in the Bergen County, NJ area who were up for a surprise. In all we surprised five families over the course of the evening. The moms acted as our accomplice– they were the only ones in the family who knew that something was going to happen, but they didn’t know what. They kept the secret from their husband and kids. Once the families arrived for the photo, a producer told them to wait their turn in the living room and to please answer the door if the doorbell rings as we were expecting more families soon.
