Police Discover Very Expensive Ornament While Taking Down Department Christmas Tree

The diamonds are real...

GERMANTOWN, Wis. (TheBlaze/AP) — While a Wisconsin police department was taking down its Christmas tree this weekend, they happened upon an ornament that runs just a few dollars more than your garden-variety star, angel or snowflake.

A diamond wedding ring.

Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell posted a note on his department's Facebook page on Saturday, asking if anyone knows where the ring came from.

He said the diamonds are real, and the ring is presently in safe keeping.

For the last five weeks, the department invited people to bring their children to decorate the tree and get a stuffed animal in return. During that time, someone put the ring on a branch of the tree but left no explanation.

So if you've paid a visit there and have been wondering where your diamond ring has gone, you're welcome to contact the department — but getting the ring won't be a cinch.

You have to provide a detailed description, Hoell noted, adding that a better bet is "a picture of the owner wearing it."

Germantown is about 15 miles northwest of Milwaukee.
