Papa John's Makes Decision Regarding Female Employee Who Shot Armed Robber, Defying Company's Gun Policy

"Company policy prohibits employees from utilizing firearms in the performance of their duties..."

A female Papa John’s delivery driver in Decatur, Georgia, feared she might lose her job after she opened fire on an armed robber on Sunday, defying a company policy that prohibits employees from carrying firearms on the job. But the major pizza chain is reportedly standing by the employee following the act of self defense.

Papa John’s told FoxNews.com that the employee would instead be reassigned to a different role in the company.

"The safety of Papa John's employees is a top priority for our company, " the company said in an emailed statement to FoxNews.com.

The statement continued: “Company policy prohibits employees from utilizing firearms in the performance of their duties. We plan no changes to our current policy, which is designed to protect customers and employees. Upon investigation and considering the specific facts of the situation, we have reassigned the employee to work in the store and are offering her counseling to help her recuperate from the incident."

The female employee was targeted on Sunday by an armed robber as she sat alone in her vehicle. She was reportedly forced out of the car and onto the ground. She was carrying her firearm at the time though and was able to draw it and shoot the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Donquaz Stevenson, in the face.

Police are still searching for a second suspect who reportedly took off in the employee’s silver 2000 Honda Accord.

DeKalb County Police Department Capt. Stephen Fore agreed that the woman “had no other choice.”

Outrage quickly began to brew online after the woman's firing was floated as a possible consequence of defending herself.
