Based on His Tweet Apparently Targeting 'American Sniper,' We Bet Michael Moore Won't Get Invited to Clint Eastwood's Oscar Party
January 18, 2015
"My uncle killed by sniper in WW2..."
Is it a coincidence that uber-liberal movie director Michael Moore posted a comment on social media calling snipers "cowards" on the same weekend "American Sniper" dominated ticket sales at movie theaters, breaking several box office records?
Posted mid-Sunday afternoon, Moore's tweet did not mention the movie. However, it did insult snipers — and his use of the term "invaders" appeared to take a swipe at the U.S. military's mission in Afghanistan and Iraq:
My uncle killed by sniper in WW2. We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse
— Michael Moore (@MMFlint) January 18, 2015
"My uncle killed by sniper in WW2," Moore tweeted. "We were taught snipers were cowards. Will shoot u in the back. Snipers aren't heroes. And invaders r worse."
As you might imagine, it wasn't long before fans of the late Chris Kyle — the movie's central figure — and the American military responded. TheBlaze TV's Dana Loesch immediately fired back at Moore:
Easy to say from your frillion dollar lake front house, tons of fun. Why don't you go over there, show them how it's done @MMFlint ?
— Dana Loesch (@DLoesch) January 18, 2015
Townhall's Katie Pavlich also saw fit to respond to Moore's statement, posting a flurry of tweets. We offer two that caught our eye:
YOU are a coward @MMFlint, you wouldn't dare say those words directly to any U.S. sniper, you hide behind a computer screen #AmericanSniper
— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) January 18, 2015
Pavlich continued:
Americans love God, military, patriotism, Clint Eastwood, Chris Kyle & made #AmericanSniper an extreme success. The Left Can't. Stand. It.
— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) January 18, 2015
Among the hundreds of Twitter users who answered Moore's words, one took the opportunity to point out that his "gotcha" form of documentary filmmaking is far from heroic:
Snipers are cowards but hiding in bushes and ambushing someone with a camera makes you a real hero. @MMFlint
— Stephen Miller (@redsteeze) January 18, 2015
Others got a bit more personal:
You know who is a hero? The poor guy at Golden Corral that has to refill the buffet when Michael Moore is there for lunch/dinner.
— Matthew (@Matthops82) January 18, 2015
Conservative author Jonah Goldberg issued this thoughtful decree:
People, please ignore Michael Moore. He's been trolling since before the term was coined. This is the same guy who thought OJ was innocent.
— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahNRO) January 18, 2015
While it isn't clear if Moore has even seen "American Sniper," radio host Mark Levin actually did see the movie and posted a brief review on his Facebook page.
"... last night I saw American Sniper. I strongly encourage you to see it. When the movie was over, everyone in the theater first applauded and then fell silent. You'll be proud, furious, and sad all at once. God bless Chris Kyle and all the precious patriots who've fought these barbarians."
