That Music That Played Scott Walker on Stage? The Band That Performed It Just Issued an Ultimatum to the Governor
January 25, 2015
"We literally hate you."
What's a little hate from a punk band, anyway?
In his crowd-pleasing performance at the Iowa Freedom Summit Saturday, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker touted his "go big and go bold" conservatism — and the union-busting governor took the stage to the strains of "I'm Shipping Up to Boston."
The Dropkick Murphys, the Celtic punk band that popularized the Woody Guthrie sea shanty, had a problem with that.
@ScottWalker @GovWalker please stop using our music in any way...we literally hate you !!!
Love, Dropkick Murphys

The band tweeted "we literally hate you" at Walker and demanded that he stop using their music.
On Twitter, some fans reacted with pleasure, laying into Walker...
@DropkickMurphys @ScottWalker @GovWalker You guys rock (no pun intended). Walker, you've been schooled!

@ScottWalker @GovWalker please tweet your apology to @DropkickMurphys for stealing copyrighted material Peace & Love

@DropkickMurphys @bradreadman @ScottWalker @GovWalker I told you! Working mans band! We don't need Walker in Iowa! #unionsolidarity

...while other said they'd swear off the band because of their politics.
@DropkickMurphys @ScottWalker @GovWalker You just lost a fan, jerks.

Mt @nextinstinct Wow, all respect lost@DropkickMurphys you're brainwashed by lib media & don't research truth @GovWalker #IAFreedomSummit

Hey @DropkickMurphys , not every fan of yours is a Democrat, not all unions doing any good anymore. @ScottWalker 's policies saved Wisconsin

The Dropkick Murphys have long written and performed pro-union music and styled themselves as a "working man's band."
As of Sunday morning, it did not appear Walker had responded to the band's demand — see the governor's latest tweet (as of 10 a.m. EST) below:
Thanks to all who came out today at the #IAFreedomSummit. America needs to go big & bold! pic.twitter.com/M9pCf4Qaby
