When Renee Bracey Sherman was 19, she had an abortion.
And on her video for Fusion detailing what happened before, during and after, Sherman added that it was "one of the best decisions of my life."

After she found out she was pregnant, Sherman said she "did not want to continue the pregnancy. I simply wan't ready."
Sherman revealed that she was afraid to tell her family, wanting to "pretend like I wasn't one of those girls."
"I didn't want to fall into society's statistics and stereotypes," Sherman added. "And I didn't want to be a disappointment to my parents."

While Sherman said her mother felt badly she couldn't be at the clinic to support her, Sherman lauded her mother for giving her "all of the tools I needed to make the best decision for me."
As for second guessing her abortion, Sherman summed up things this way: "I haven't once regretted it. It allowed me to change paths. It was one of the best decisions of my life. And I'm happy."
These days Sherman is a "reproductive justice and storytelling activist who shares her own abortion experience to encourage others who have had abortions to speak out and end the silence and stigma," Fusion noted.
