Martin, along with slain black men Michael Brown and Eric Garner, has become something of a rallying symbol for those who say the criminal justice system is devastatingly biased against black men.
Brown and Garner were killed by police officers; Martin was killed by a neighborhood watchman.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
