Rabbi's Reaction to Man Arrested for Allegedly Yelling 'Allahu Akbar' and 'We Will Cut Your Heads Off' at Synagogue Members

As two members of a Miami Beach synagogue stood outside their place of worship, a man walked by shouting "Allahu Akbar" and "We will cut your heads off," police said.

In fear for their safety, the Ohev Shalom Congregation members immediately called 911, and Diego Chaar was arrested a few blocks away in connection with Saturday night's incident; he faces charges of assault and stalking, WFOR-TV reported.

“Threatening to kill,” Rabbi Phineas Webberman told WFOR. “His attitude was that this is his religious responsibility of carrying out killing infidels.”

According to the police report, “the subject denied having said anything to the victim.” Another man was with Chaar at the time but there was no indication of his involvement.

Chaar is out of jail on bond, WFOR reported, adding that it was unable to get a comment from him.

“It’s terrible,” Joe McCormack, a retired officer and friend of Webberman, told the station. “How would you feel if I said ‘I’ll cut your head off, you Jew.’ It shouldn’t be. It shouldn’t be allowed.”

As for Webberman, he hopes Chaar turns himself around: “Change your religion to a religion of life, not one of death,” the rabbi told WFOR.

For now the synagogue has stepped up security, Webberman said.
