Rep. Gohmert Absolutely Unloads on FCC Chief: 'You're Playing God With the Internet!

"...before the FCC stepped in, everyone was able to explore new business models!”

Rep. Louie Gohmert unloaded on Federal Communications Chairman Tom Wheleer Wednesday during a Judiciary Subcommittee Hearing on Courts, Intellectual Property and the Internet.

"You're playing God with the Internet," the conservative firebrand shouted at the FCC chief, referencing the agency's move to regulate the web.

Wheeler contended that a decades-old law provided the FCC with the legal authority to enact net neutrality. Gohmert adamantly argued the opposite.

“I would submit to you that something in 1996 had nothing to do with wanting you to take charge of the Internet,” Gohmert said.

“I would also thank you for your willingness to leave some room for exploratory business models and new business models — that’s really so gracious of you,” he added. “Because before the FCC stepped in, everyone was able to explore new business models!”
