The Rock' Shares a Poignant Moment for Mother's Day: 'Are You Happy, Ma?

"I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us ..."

Action-movie star Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson hit Instagram Sunday to share a "cool Mother's Day story" about his mom bursting into tears during a plane flight — but not because she was sad.

Johnson shared that he was sitting across from his mother "when out of the blue she looks around the plane, then looks at me and says, 'Son, I can't believe the life I have. Grandma and grandpa would be so proud.'"

"Are you happy, Ma?" Johnson inquired.

At that moment a flight attendant placed his mother's breakfast on a table, which sealed it for her: "Am I happy?" she asked Johnson rhetorically. "I used to worry about how I was going to buy groceries for us, and now I just had my breakfast placed down in front of me."

With that she began crying. "Yes, son," she said, "I couldn't be happier."

Johnson then shared that when he was 14, they were evicted from their Hawaii apartment because they couldn't afford the $180 weekly rent — which isn't likely an issue these days.

"At this moment I'm shaking my head and smiling quietly (as my mom blows her nose)," Johnson explained, "cause she just told me she's happy. And y'all know when our parents tell us they're happy, its so satisfying for us, cause it means we've done a good job for them as their kids."

He signed off the story in this way: "Happy Mother's Day to all the deserving, amazing mamas out there. And Happy Mother's Day to my amazing mom who will no doubt kill me for posting this crying pic."
