"We lost a loved and respected member of our team."
A Google employee died Wednesday after being hit by a car in Cannes, France, on Monday, where he was attending the Cannes Lions Festival.
"We lost a loved and respected member of our team. We are deeply saddened and our thoughts are with his family and friends," Google said in an email to Business Insider.
The employee reportedly worked for the company as a marketing executive in the United Kingdom.
The man's identity was not immediately released out of respect for his family.
The Cannes Lions festival is an annual international event that celebrates creative ideas.
"We make the case for creativity and inspire the creative community," the website states. "We do this because we truly believe that creativity is the driving force for business, for change and for good."
