UPDATE, 8:34 p.m. ET: Police say that the gun used by the suspect was an airsoft pistol.

Original story below:

A suspect armed with a hatchet and gun was fatally shot by a police officer inside a movie theater in Antioch, Tennessee, on Wednesday, according to officials.

The Metro Nashville Police Department posted a message on Twitter confirming that the suspect in the active shooter situation at the Nashville-area theater was dead.

Police said one person may have suffered a hatchet wound before the suspect was killed by police. The fire department also said three people were treated for pepper spray exposure.

Though few other details were known, a video posted on Instagram showed a large police presence at the reported scene of the active shooter situation in the Nashville suburb:

Agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were reportedly on the scene Wednesday afternoon.

The report of shots fired comes about two weeks after a gunman opened fire inside a movie theater in Lafayette, Louisiana, during a screening of the film "Trainwreck." Police said John Russell Houser killed two people and wounded nine others before fatally shooting himself.

No other details were immediately available.
