Accused Robber Ordered Clerk to ‘Give Me Everything You Got’ — He Didn’t Realize a Navy Vet Was About to Ruin His Day

He definitely didn't see that coming.

A man who threatened the cashier of a Jacksonville, Florida, Walgreens early Friday couldn't know who else was in the drugstore with him.

Police say Carl Jerome Howell, 27, walked into the store around 2 a.m. and told the cashier to open the register and "give me everything you got," WJXX-TV reported. He allegedly threatened to kill her if she didn't hand over the money, the station reported.

As the suspect began reaching into his pocket, 49-year-old Navy veteran Maurice Cooper rushed into action and tackled him to the floor.

Cooper, thinking the suspect could be armed, reached for his pocket knife and stabbed him with it. Cooper was able to keep the suspect pinned to the floor until police arrived and arrested him.

Police later said Howell wasn't carrying a gun, but said he did have a screwdriver and a glass pipe used for smoking cocaine, according to WJXX.

Howell was arrested on charges of armed robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to use. He was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Cooper and the cashier were not injured.
