Cop Finds Himself in Very Dangerous Situation After Responding to Street Brawl: 'We Need to Start Killing These Officers

Police in Wisconsin say a police officer was punched in the face while being confronted by a group of people voicing anti-police sentiments – and his response to the entire incident is now being applauded.

The officer was making an arrest after noticing a woman punching a man during a street fight. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, WMTV-TV reported. But as the officer was going over to arrest her, a group of people allegedly voicing anti-police sentiments surrounded him.

"We need to start killing these officers," one person said, according to police.

That's when the officer began explaining to the crowd of people that the woman had just punched a man and was armed with pepper spray, police said. But the woman's daughter allegedly just kept grabbing the officer to try to free her mother.

The woman accused of punching the man then allegedly punched the officer in the face and grabbed him by his throat, WISC-TV reported. One witness later told police that they "felt the officer was in trouble," adding that it appeared someone else had gone to get a gun.

While some accused the officer of using excessive force, Madison police Capt. Vic Wahl praised the officer's response.

"He demonstrated fantastic patience and restraint in dealing with these folks,"  Wahl said. "He was able to literally get assaulted in the midst of a large crowd and still take these women into custody without causing any injuries to anyone."

More officers eventually arrived on the scene and the two women, 40-year-old Latonya James and 20-year-old Nanyamka James, were arrested.

Latonya James also allegedly threatened to kill the officer on her way to jail, WISC-TV reported. She was arrested on suspicion of battery to a law enforcement officer, possession of pepper spray, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Nanyamka James was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, resisting and violating parole.
