Box Cutters and Twin Towers Cakes: Rock Star Holds 9/11-Themed Wedding

"Shame on him."

When Devo singer Jerry Casale tied the knot on Friday, his wedding theme fit the day: It was all about 9/11.

According to TMZ, the rock star married Krista Napp at a Santa Monica restaurant on the 14th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, and remembrances of that day were prevalent throughout their entire ceremony. The couple had a Twin Towers wedding cake with their faces on the tops and box cutter party favors.

The table setting cards also featured an image of box cutters.

TMZ reported that friends who attended the wedding said they were not phased by the theme as the couple have a "dark and strange sense of humor." One guest told TMZ that Casale is has a "real heart as an artist, and is a super sweet guy."

"Shame on him, his wife, his guests and even the restaurant for participating in such garbage," Michelle Miller, whose brother died on 9/11, told the New York Daily News. "A box cutter? My brother turned to ashes as the South Tower fell on him and people died at the Pentagon because of box cutters."

"It seems like maybe they just needed to bring attention to themselves again as they didn't exactly have staying power with my generation," Miller said. "Whatever the reason though, it is no excuse."

Devo was formed in 1972 and rose to fame with songs such as "Whip It."
