CNN's Don Lemon asked Hillary Clinton, flat out, if she or her campaign had started the claim that President Barack Obama was not born in the United States.
Lemon posed the question to the presidential frontrunner on the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" on Black America Web.
Here's how Clinton answered:
“People have been saying … that you were the person behind the birther, the whole birther thing, that the senator at the time, the president-elect actually confronted you about that,” Lemon said.
“Do you care to respond? Did you or your campaign start the whole birther thing?" Lemon asked.
“That is so— no,” Clinton interjected.
Lemon continued by asking, "And did you have a confrontation with the president?”
“That’s so ludicrous, Don. You know, honestly, I just believe— first of all, it’s totally untrue and secondly, the president and I have never had any kind of confrontation like that," Clinton said.
Clinton went on to note that she has been "blamed nearly everything," but that "that was a new one."
