Cosmopolitan magazine revealed the cover to its 50th anniversary issue Sunday night, featuring "America's First Family."
That family? The Kardashians.
Excited to announce we're celebrating our 50th birthday with the Kardashian/Jenner women! http://t.co/AsWmeHTBCJ pic.twitter.com/CcWZFGPnFU

Famed TV talk show host Montel Williams took umbrage with the cover.
@Cosmopolitan if u think KARDASHIANS are America's first family, you know NOTHING about why this country is great https://t.co/2DGhETPNOP

Non-celebrities also shared their dismay at the cover.

@Cosmopolitan The First Family is Black, no matter how much you might hate this fact. pic.twitter.com/QEvjHZgJEa

@Cosmopolitan gross. And NOT America's first family. Just because we can't get away from them, doesn't mean they are our "first family."

One Twitter member "corrected" the cover for Cosmopolitan.
@Cosmopolitan I fixed your cover for you! No need to thank me. #AmericasFirstFamily #FixedIt pic.twitter.com/ANduFEAeYQ

Cosmopolitan editor Joanna Coles has not yet responded to our request for a response to the social media blowback.
UPDATE: A Cosmo representative sent this statement along:
We are teasing! Though who knows, if Kanye runs for president then we may be soothsayers. The Kardashians and Jenners have more digital followers than any other family, more than 350 million and counting. They are a huge cultural phenomenon. What we do know is there is nothing like the cover of a magazine to provoke a national conversation.
