Writer Noticed Shocking Church Sign 'So Scandalous' That He Had a 'Hard Time Believing It Was Not Photoshopped'. Then, He Took Action.

"As soon as I learned of this sign, I took immediate action to have it removed."

The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo demanded that an area church remove a controversial billboard message about Jesus having "two dads" after a Catholic writer caught wind of it and complaints came flooding in.

"Jesus Had 2 Dads and He Turned Out Just Fine," read the church sign on the lawn of Saints Columba-Brigid Roman Catholic Church, in Buffalo, New York, according to WKBW-TV.

Bishop Richard Joseph Malone ordered removal of the sign after John Vennari, editor of the Catholic Family News, a faith-based journal, saw it and wrote an article claiming that it "seemed to be giving a stamp of approval of this two dads, two moms setup."

Vennari, who held little back in his initial post on the matter, also wrote that "the sign was so scandalous" that he had a " hard time believing it was not photo-shopped," claiming that it was a mockery to the trinity, to Jesus' family and to the Catholic faith as a whole.

"As soon as I learned of this sign, I took immediate action to have it removed. The pastor of SS. Columba-Brigid Parish told me that the '2 Dads' were meant to refer to a child who has both a father and stepfather," Malone said in a statement to WKBW-TV. "However, given the potential for the meaning of this message to be misunderstood and even perceived in a heretical way, it was immediately removed."

Following intense controversy — which included angry calls to the diocese from across the globe — Saints Columba-Brigid Roman Catholic Church changed the sign to read, "Walmart Isn't the Only Saving Place."

Vennari released a statement saying that he is "grateful" that the sign has been removed, but questioned the apparent lack of knowledge about how the "two dads" message would be received in the modern era.

"With respect, it seems hard to imagine anyone in our time not being aware of what the '2 dads' term can imply, especially since the pro-homosexual book "Heather Has 2 Mommies" has been around since 1989," the statement read. "Couple this with the shocking pro-homosexual statements that surfaced suring Synod discussions of both 2014-2015."
