In response to the Islamic State's recent, well-publicized threat to New York City, the NYPD's counter-terrorism forces have established an extraordinary and well-armed perimeter to keep a watchful eye on one of the most heavily trafficked areas of the city.
In addition, the NYPD has deployed lighter forces to Planned Parenthood locations around the city in response to a gunman's attack on a Planned Parenthood location in Colorado, which took the lives of three individuals including a law enforcement officer.
Security in NYC Looks Like This Following Paris and Planned Parenthood Attacks:
Shortly after the attacks on Paris, the Islamic State published a short film that recycled previously published footage of New York City's Times Square and Herald Square to imply a threat to the U.S. That night, Police Commissioner William Bratton held a press conference in Times Square to say the NYPD was prepared.
NYPD director of communication J. Peter Donald additionally said in a statement at the time there were no credible threats to the city.
“While there is no current or specific threat to the City at this time, we will remain at a heightened state of vigilance and will continue to work with the FBI, the Joint Terrorism Task Force and the entire intelligence community to keep the City of New York safe,” Donald said.
