Los Angeles Times film writer Rebecca Keegan hailed the film as the movie Star Wars fans have been waiting for.
Hollywood Reporter Executive Editor Matthew Belloni tweeted that there were many satisfied faces following the premiere.
BuzzFeed's senior film reporter Adam B. Vary assured fans the movie is 100% Star Wars with "something new."
Filmmaker Brett Morgen wrote that the movie "might be the best" since the original.
L.A. Times Arts and Entertainment writer Steven Zeitchik praised director J.J. Abrams for creating a "thoroughly old-fashioned movie."
"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is set to hit theaters this Friday, with some early screenings Thursday evening.
