Things Get Very Tense When Man Asks Ted Cruz About Canadian Birth: 'Sir, Sir — OK, Next Question!\

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz found himself in a testy exchange Thursday when a voter in New Hampshire questioned him about his Canadian birthplace.

"Can you please explain to me, why and how you were unaware you were a Canadian citizen? This isn't a question about your eligibility, it's about your credibility," the individual said.

"Well, thank you very much for that kind question," Cruz joked at the outset. "Look, the facts are real simple. My mom is a U.S. citizen by birth. She was born in Wilmington, Delaware."

The man attempted to interject.

"Sir, I will answer your question, but I'm not going to debate you," Cruz said. "I'll answer your question, but I'm not going to debate you."

The man continued to try to get a few words in.

"Sir, I'm happy to answer your question," Cruz said firmly. "Sir! I am happy to answer your question, but this is not going to be an ongoing conversation."

"The facts are simple. My mom was a U.S. citizen by birth, she was born in Wilmington, Delaware. I was born in Calgary where my parents were. Now, under U.S. law, the child of a U.S. citizen born abroad is a natural-born citizen. That has been true from the very beginning of the country."

"I understand that," the man quipped back.

"Sir, sir — OK, next question!" a frustrated Cruz said to conclude.

Cruz has been dogged by questions regarding his Canadian birthplace after 2016 rival Donald Trump made it an issue to cast doubt on his qualification to serve in the nation's highest office.
