A Massachusetts Salon Gave Free Makeovers to Family Members of Service Men and Women on Valentine’s Day
February 15, 2016
“I want to just kind of give them a nice day.”
A Massachusetts salon made Valentine's Day just a little more special for military families this year, offering free makeovers for family members of service men and women, according to WHDH-TV.
Cathy Varetimos of Unique Salon in West Roxbury said she wanted “to treat military families to a nice day.”
Varetimos offered a “spa day,” including haircuts, coloring treatments and makeup, to those who have relatives serving overseas or had relatives killed in the line of duty.
"It is fantastic,” Varetimos told WHDH. “They're walking in, they're smiling, and it makes us smile, it makes us happy."
“I want to just kind of give them a nice day, to be happy again,” Varetimos added. “I met so many wonderful women today.”
Kim Rowean-Finley, whose son is a Marine serving a tour in Afghanistan, said that the day was “incredible.”
"I think everybody should look at it from the big picture," said Rowean-Finley. "We've got children going overseas, and it's not easy, and I've got a very good support group."
