Christ, I Want to Leave This Planet': Fed-Up Comedian Stephen Fry Quits Twitter After Internet Mob Freaks Out Over His 'Sexist' Joke

"F****** f*** the f*** off."

British actor and comedian Stephen Fry has quit Twitter after a number of users attacked him for "sexist" remarks he made about costume designer Jenny Beavan at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Awards.

Beavan had just accepted an award for her work in the film "Mad Max: Fury Road," the BBC reported. Fry, who was hosting the awards show, later joked about Beavan's costume, sparking an online fury.

“Only one of the great cinematic costume designers would come to an award ceremony dressed as a bag lady,” Fry said, prompting laughs from the audience.

The Twitter backlash was fast, and it was harsh.

"Stephen Fry is hardly in vogue – totally sexist remark," one person wrote.

"Stephen Fry giving fashion tips to the costume designer of Mad Max 4 – ageist and sexist," another tweeted.

Piers Morgan added that, although Fry is a "good guy," his joke was "misogynist."

Fry, who later said that Beavan "is a friend," even tweeted a picture of himself with the costume designer after the ceremony. Fry insisted that it was only a joke, and that Beavan understood that.

But Fry apparently became fed up enough by all the feedback that he suspended his Twitter account.

"Will all you sanctimonious f****** f*** the f*** off Jenny Beavan is a friend and joshing is legitimate. Christ I want to leave the planet," Fry wrote in his last tweet.

The British actor and comedian later posted a message on his website, comparing the move to "leaving a room."

"I like to believe I haven’t slammed the door, much less stalked off in a huff throwing my toys out of the pram as I go or however one should phrase it. It’s quite simple really: the room had started to smell. Really quite bad," Fry said.
