Reporter Asks Hillary Clinton if She's 'Always Told the Truth' — See How She Answers
February 18, 2016
"You know, you're asking me to say have I ever."
It got just a little awkward Thursday night when CBS Evening News host Scott Pelley confronted Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on the issue of honesty.
Clinton told Pelley she has "tried in every way I know how" to be straightforward and honest with the American people. That statement promoted the CBS reporter to ask Clinton about her track record.

"Have you always told the truth?" Pelley asked the former secretary of state.
"I’ve always tried to, always. Always," Clinton quickly replied.
However, Pelley didn't seem fully satisfied with the answer, telling Clinton that some viewers will "call that wiggle room that you just gave yourself."
"You know, you're asking me to say have I ever," Clinton, somewhat bewildered, shot back. "I don’t believe I ever have! I don’t believe I ever have, I don’t believe I ever will."
