Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) insisted Tuesday that he would hold strong.
The Kentucky Republican told members of the House Freedom Caucus that there was not a "snowball's chance in hell" he would back down from opposing a Supreme Court nominee before a new president takes office, Politico reported.

"There's not a snowball's chance in hell that's gonna happen," McConnell said, according to lawmakers at the meeting who spoke with the political news website.

After the sudden death this month of Justice Antonin Scalia, Republicans demanded President Barack Obama leave the seat vacant until the next president takes office.
That piece of advice was ignored, however, by Obama who said he intended to nominate a replacement.
