UPDATE 2:49 p.m. ET: The three deputies were shot while serving an eviction notice, KMGH-TV reported.

The man at the home opened fire on the deputies with a rifle, Susan Medina, spokeswoman for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, told KMGH.

The deputy who was killed was a 10-year veteran of the Park County Sheriff's Office, the station said.

A Colorado sheriff’s deputy was killed and two other deputies were injured in a shooting Wednesday morning, KDVR-TV reported, citing the Park County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting suspect was killed during the 9:15 a.m. incident in Bailey, which is about an hour southwest of Denver, and pronounced dead at the scene, officials told the station. It’s unclear if the suspect was shot by deputies or died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

The two injured deputies don't have life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office told KDVR, but they were taken to a hospital.

No details about where the shooting took place were released, the station reported, adding that the bomb squad was being brought in for an unknown reason.

Platte Canyon High School and Fitzsimmons Middle School were placed on lockdown “for safety’s sake," according to the Park County website.
