These American College Students Know Very Little About the Supreme Court

Students were largely clueless regarding the role of the Court and who was currently sitting on the bench.

With the nomination of a new Supreme Court justice pending in the wake of Justice Antonin Scalia's unexpected death, MRCTV's Dan Joseph decided he would interview some college students to find out what they knew about the high court.

As it turned out, most knew surprisingly little. When asked to name one Supreme Court justice, few of the respondents succeeded. The most popular answer was "the old lady."

Joseph conducted his interviews at George Mason University in Virginia, which, according to the school's website, is the largest public research university in the state.

He also asked students if they could explain the Court's function as a co-equal branch of the federal government. For the most part, students were clueless regarding the role of the Court and who was currently sitting on the bench.
