Ben Carson Plans to Skip GOP Debate, Sees 'No Path Forward' in 2016 Race After Super Tuesday

"However, this grassroots movement on behalf of 'We the People' will continue."

After a weak showing in the Super Tuesday primaries, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson is telling supporters that he sees "no path forward" for his campaign and plans to skip Thursday's Fox News GOP debate.

After the initial report surfaced, Carson's campaign released a statement confirming the retired neurosurgeon's decision to skip the highly-anticipated debate in Detroit, adding, though that he remains "deeply committed to my home nation, America."

"I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening's Super Tuesday primary results," Carson said. "However, this grassroots movement on behalf of 'We the People' will continue."

Carson went on to say that his campaign decisions are not "constrained by finances," but rather are determined by the "best interests of the American people."

The statement said the retired neurosurgeon will discuss the "future of this movement" during his CPAC speech this Friday in Washington, D.C.

According to Washington Post political reporter Robert Costa, Carson's decision came after a lengthy meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, with his inner circle and the team agreed that there was no viable path for his candidacy.

Once the decision was made, Costa reports, Carson and his allies decided to alert supporters and make his CPAC speech his formal exit from the 2016 campaign.

The Carson campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment from TheBlaze.
