Brit Passenger Gets Photo With EgyptAir Hijacking Suspect

A photo of a British passenger posing beside the alleged hijacker of the EgyptAir plane has gone viral. The image surfaced on social media Tuesday.

Ben Innes of Leeds is seen in the photo grinning next to the man who claimed to have an explosive vest, which is also featured in the photo.

Egyptian officials arrested the suspected hijacker, Seifedeen Mustafa, Tuesday morning. Mustafa is being investigated for holding 56 passengers hostage inside the aircraft for several hours after forcing the pilot to divert to Cyprus during a domestic flight from Alexandria to Cairo.

Innes, 26, confirmed to the Evening Express Tuesday afternoon that he was on flight MS181 with Mustafa.

According to the Evening Express, Innes, a health and safety auditor, is one of the final three hostages Mustafa released before surrendering to police Tuesday morning.

The Daily Mail spoke with Innes' roommate Tuesday about the photo, which Innes reportedly sent him via the messaging app, WhatsApp.

"You know your boy doesn't f*** about. Turn on the news lad!!!" Innes allegedly wrote in a text to his friends.

Innes' roommate, Chris Tundogan, sent this frantic reply: "Wtf? Is that a bomb attached to the guys chest? You ok? Let us know when you get off."

Tundogan told the Daily Mail that he has "no idea why he took the selfie," adding that "he probably volunteered to take it as he's no afraid to shy away from anything."

There is no word, yet, on who took the photo for Innes.
