Georgia Grandma Is Working to Ensure Teachers Never ‘Have the Privilege to Teach Again’ After Learning of Grandson’s Punishment

"He was only five."

CONYERS, Ga. (TheBlaze/AP) — A Georgia woman says her grandson's teacher made him hang by his belt from the top of a chalkboard as punishment.

Tracy Davis said that on Thursday, the principal at Shoal Creek Elementary School in Conyers found her 5-year-old grandson — who has special needs — hanging from a chalkboard. The principal said the boy was screaming and in distress.

“I don’t want those teachers to ever have the privilege to teach again,” Davis told WSB-TV.

Davis says the state Division of Family and Children Services interviewed the boy and learned this wasn't the first time the teacher had done this. She says the school told her it's disciplining two teachers and a paraprofessional because of the incident.

Rockdale County Public Schools tells the news station in a statement that the district "takes all matters of this kind very seriously and is currently conducting a full investigation."

Meanwhile, Davis said she's just trying to help her grandson comprehend what happened.

“He just said he was sad because you know he was scared, he was only five, and he's hanging from the top of a blackboard,” Davis said.
