The Denton Police Department said in a statement that police initially encountered 28-year-old Peshwaz Azad Waise while responding to a call for service Tuesday night. The man reportedly spoke “irrationally” about “God and Allah” but did not break any laws. He was let go and police responded to the initial call.

Later that night, University of North Texas Police responded to a reported disturbance at an IHOP restaurant. Officers found Waise at the scene and reported he was still speaking incoherently. This time, he was ordered to leave by officers on a notice of trespass.

Waise “sometime later” went to the Center for Women in Denton and demanded workers take the Koran from him, allegedly telling them to give the Islamic book to the Chaplin “or die.” Police said the man was gone before officers arrived at the scene.

Waise's series of alarming behavior culminated at the Denton County Courthouse.

Police said he entered the courthouse and told security officers that he was “the king.” He was promptly escorted out by deputies, but he grew “agitated.”

He allegedly told the officers detaining him that he was “imposing the death penalty” on them.

“Anybody who touches me is going to bleed,” the man allegedly said.

After obtaining an arrest warrant for a terroristic threat, police took Waise into custody and put him in jail. Due to the nature of the threats, police said took “extra precautions” in inspecting the man’s Nissan Versa in the parking lot of the courthouse.
