NEW ORLEANS (TheBlaze/AP) -- Authorities in Louisiana say a deputy has been shot and killed after stopping a pedestrian on the street in a New Orleans suburb.
Col. John Fortunato, a spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, said at a televised news conference that the deputy died Wednesday afternoon after he was shot in the city of Harvey. He had been taken to a hospital in New Orleans. The identity of the deputy has not been released.
WGNO-TV reported the officer was shot during a "traffic stop."
A search was underway for one suspect, but possibly one more. One suspect was described to WGNO-TV as a black man who was wearing a black t-shirt and black shorts. The other suspect was described as a white man wearing a white shirt and khaki shorts.
