Cancer patient wins year of free pizza. But what he does with it is truly amazing.

Josh Katrick had just walked out of his eighth round of chemotherapy for colon cancer when he learned that he had just struck the food version of the powerball lottery: one year of free pizza from a local pizza parlor.

Katrick, 36, was diagnosed with colon cancer last July, but instead of keeping the pizza for himself, he chose to do something much better with it — give it away to the local food bank in Northampton, Pennsylvania.

"I've been getting so much from family, friends, people I don't even know well, the last few months," Katrick told WFMZ-TV. "Getting so much love and support…I just wanted to give back to people that could use it more than I could."

According to the pizza parlor, Mario's Pizza on Main Street, Katrick was set to receive one free large 2-liter of soda each month in addition to two large pizzas.

But when the pizza restaurant heard of Katrick's plans to donate the winnings, they decided to double down and chose another winner: both Katrick and the Northampton food bank.

And the owners were more than happy to give extra.

"It's better to give than receive, and especially during this time of year - Christmas — it's a great time to think about that and see examples of it around town," Giuseppe Aiello, son of one of the shop's co-owners, told WFMZ.

"And this time of year, doing what we're doing, I can't think of anything better," added Frank Grigoli, the restaurant's manager.

Roughly 1,200 people entered the contest. The winner was randomly chosen by a computer, according to WFMZ.
